Very impressive! Good job Matt.

I attempted playing around with a scrollable weather map powered by rss
feeds but it never got off the ground - nice to see somebody has got
something involving satellite imagery and RSS working!

Subject: [backstage] screen shot of prototype

I know it is a bit lame to mail out a screen shot and not a url to the live
thing.
That being said, here is a screen shot of a prototype I am working on which
mixes a lot of geo data, including geotagged bbc news.

The pins indicate the location and volume of news articles. The red arcs
indicate the relationships between locations as judged by mentions in the
same article.

The areas of the map that look a little different from the rest (e.g. UK)
are areas where landsat imagery has been downloaded and added to the
picture.

The application, which I hope to get up as soon as some support components
are in place, is fully interactive, including animated movement to
locations, zooming, pulling in geographic boundary data, such as countries,
states, counties, etc. The architecture allows for arbitrary 'data services'
to be plugged
in (e.g. weather rss, traffic, etc.)

Matt
