I have to say also, I did try the XML redirects on a number of RSS readers including sharp, rssowl, jaeger, feedreader, sparks, etc. And none of them supported it :(
I agree with Joel that it's a bug in the RSS readers/aggregators and it will be fixed with newer versions or by publicly talking about the problem as we are now.
