I've finally got round to starting to build my RSS aggregrator, which could develop into something like the mixer you describe. At present my main focus has been on using Bayesian filtering to build a profile of stories from several feeds so that I end up with a personalised news feed; but the options are already there to force n messages per feed, to introduce a non-bayesian random element (the noise input to a mixer/synth), to weight different feeds and to mute specific feeds. Later today I hope to release my NewsGlobe into the Prototypes area which can take the output from the aggregator or a specific feed and plot the stories on GoogleEarth. Other output options will include speech over web and speech over phone. Once I've got the basic aggregator working I'd be happy to start adding the odd "mixer" module.
