Hey Gordo, hope you are well. BETSIE is no longer maintained by the BBC as an in-house project, but instead is an example of where we are moving projects like this into the open-source arena.
BETSIE is now maintained over at sourceforge: http://betsie.sourceforge.net/, . The project page for BETSIE is at http://sourceforge.net/projects/betsie/. There is a mailing list via sourceforge which may also be a good forum to communicate your ideas, and find out how you can commit changes to the deployment branch of BETSIE.
