Well, this is a API that works very well with Linux (and other OS's of
choice):

There's other open source projects from the BBC as well, and they many have
API's too:
   * http://www.bbc.co.uk/opensource/

Can't get more "use our stuff to build your stuff" than releasing code as open 
source ?
