I think its a mistake to concentrate on choice: If that's what is promoted, then we'll just get a cross platform DRM system, which will be even worse, because even more people will get their freedom trampled.
You mean like DReaM: https://dream.dev.java.net/ ? DRM is not acceptable, and no iPlayer is preferable to a DRM iPlayer
because DRM tramples our freedom. Similarly, a DRM iPlayer only for Windows is preferable to a cross platform DRM iPlayer because it will harm less people, and those people not using Windows will more likely to understand why the lack of freedom inherent in DRM is unacceptable.
I disagree, I'd much prefer an open, cross platform DRM scheme to an OS specific one for many reasons, not least because it mean that people on other platforms actually get to use iPlayer, as opposed to having to use Windows to access BBC content. It'd also be cheaper (so a better deal for me as a licence fee payer); the Beeb shouldn't be wasting money when there are cheaper alternatives that are not only just as effective, but give more people access to programming that informs, educates and entertains. Vijay.
