Lots of stuff in there, but I'll just throw in a few thoughts based on what I'm currently looking at.
TV-Anytime is certainly rich enough to be geared to any use, and it's a spec that I think should be more widely adopted. To the best of my knowledge, it has little take up with device manufacturers, but like any standard it takes a critical mass of feed providers before it is needed as a device feature. The R&D folks at the BBC have done some great work around this - have you checked out the BBC Web API? [http://www0.rdthdo.bbc.co.uk/services/api/]. Whilst it uses TVA and a simpler XML schema the clever stuff is around discovery and standardisation of interface - i.e. a ReST based web service. Its something we're looking at here for our radio stations and theres no reason other media organisations can't follow suit. It would be nice for there to be one place to get all our TVA feeds, but in reality that's a big ask for any single organisation. Whats probably more feasible is agreeing on a standardised interface (like mentioned above) and for each provider to provide their own feeds, possibly having a centralised site for discovery. Be interested to see what other providers/clients of TVA data there are around the world... Incidentally, I'm intending to start a project on SourceForge for a Java API to marshall/unmarshall TVA data, inspired by some work that the BBC did some time ago [http://www.bbc.co.uk/opensource/projects/tv_anytime_api/]. We've done similar work before around the ETSI DAB EPG standard [http://sourceforge.net/projects/java-epg-xml/]. Would be great to collaborate with your project. Ben. PS. I too had great trouble finding the complete TVA spec - I believe you can only find it at the end of a rainbow.
