Of course not. It was simply a response to the rather dumb
suggestion of doing it via httpd.conf
Don't think anyone made that suggestion at all. Cos to do huge
shortcode systems, it would be insane.
Currently bbc.co.uk's redirects are a lot less demanding. So the
implementation method is similarly less demanding. (i.e. it's a great
big httpd.conf - or whatever the exact file name is)
