OFCOM don't regulate the podcast itself because they don't regulate the internet - only the original radio programme

Also remember that the BBC rules about music in podcasts is more about market impact than royalties - the podcasts from the BBC are still - I could be wrong here - in a 'trial' and still have to go through the Trust before they can expand further. OFCOM do not regulate Podcasts in the same way as they do live 'traditional' radio, but the rights holders certainly do care if you use their music in podcasts. When I worked at Unique we made some of the first podcasts that contained full length audio tracks - but in order to do so we had to obtain the performance rights and the standard artist royalties... both PRS and PPL have rights models in place that you can use. So does anyone know if they are doing the permitted 30second snippets, or is it another BBC paying lots of money for some obscure licence only the BBC can afford, or have the podcasting rules changed? The main reason I'm wondering, is I'm responsible for Web Development, at our student radio station (http://LSRfm.com <http://lsrfm.com/> ), and if Radio 1 are doing it because the podcasting rules have changed, then we can start doing so too.
