I've seen that changing the channel to a few down the line helps, so if it's on 1 or 3, try 6 or 9/vice versa. If you want to try this also you can download NetStumbler [1] and look at the graph, then you can change your settings and compare results in different parts of your house based on signal strength. There's also a sound you can activate so you don't have to be near your PC to see if the strength has increased or not. If you need to know how to set that up give me a shout.
