Social Innovation Camp June 2009 call for ideas has opened!

We’re looking for the best ideas for web-based tools that can change stuff that
matters <http://en.oreilly.com/et2009/public/schedule/detail/7689> .

Over one weekend at the Saltire Centre, Glasgow we’re bringing together some of
the best of the UK’s software developers and designers with those at the sharp
end of social problems.

Their mission will be to turn six back-of-the-envelope ideas that could change
the world into social start-ups - complete with working software. And all in
under 48 hours.

How it works

1. ) Think of an idea

Think of an idea that uses the web to create social change and send it to us
through our website <http://scotland.sicamp.org/?page_id=45> by Friday 22nd
May.

We're looking for the best ideas that use the web to change stuff that matters
- be that in education, health care, the environment…. There's only one thing
that every idea must have in common: that they use the web to help people do
something better for themselves. You can find some hints for what makes a good
Social Innovation Camp idea here <http://scotland.sicamp.org/?page_id=55> .

2. ) We choose six of the best

From the ideas submitted through our website
<http://scotland.sicamp.org/?page_id=45> , our judges choose six of the best to
come to the Social Innovation Camp weekend
<http://scotland.sicamp.org/?page_id=15> .

3. ) Get involved

We need the help of a huge range of people to make our six ideas a reality.
Whether you're a software developer, a designer, you've got a business mind or
you're someone who knows all about the problems we’re trying to solve, you can
sign up to get involved <http://scotland.sicamp.org/?page_id=50> .

4. ) Camp!

From 6pm on Friday 19th June until 4pm on Sunday 21st June, we’ll be gathering
around 100 people in the Saltire Centre, Cowcaddens Road, Glasgow. They'll have
just 48 hours to help turn our six back-of-the-envelope ideas into social
start-ups in just two days - from hacking together software to working out how
to grow a community of users.

5. ) Show and Tell

The weekend finishes with a Show and Tell pitching competition between our six
teams and we’ll award a prize to the most impressive idea.

Who's it for?

Absolutely anyone can enter an idea: if you're a hacker with an itch to
scratch, we want to hear from you - but you don't have to be technically
skilled to get involved. And to enter an idea, there's no need for you to be
based in Scotland - or even the UK. As long as you can get yourself to the
Saltire Centre in Glasgow from 19th-21st June.

So send us your idea!

So get thinking: you've only got eight weeks to send us your idea
<http://scotland.sicamp.org/?page_id=45> through our website.
