I've used Clonezilla to clone and restore machines over networks, to a
central server - it really is very good.

I just had a look and noticed they now have a USB boot option- and I'm
thinking it probably possible to make an image of a netbook , create a
bootable USB clonezilla drive, add the clone image, run a script at boot and
restore the image , subject to a prompt (and then make an image of this,
complete solution, to be rolled out to many usb sticks).
