Is there a list of companies or people who "profitably develop free software"? Ones I can think of have gone to a pay model, like Red Hat.
MySQL since it's acquisition by Oracle/Sun doesn't seem a good example. I do not know the others listed in the academic article. Donation models do not count. I of course totally support open source and use it for everything I can, XP Pro on my desktops excluded.
