Indeed, 10.2 is much better and regular 1080p plays at 30fps thanks to the NVidia ION GPU acceleration. (I've also tried both the 10.1 beta and the final release as bundled in Chrome). Unfortunately the iPlayer web player doesn't seem to be presenting the H.264 video in a manner in which the ION GPU acceleration can be enabled to accelerate the video decoding, which seems to be the problem here. (given YouTube works perfectly playing 1080p with GPU acceleration and the iPlayer's 720p overwhelms the machine on CPU-only decoding). - Sent via the backstage.bbc.co.uk discussion group.
