Dear BackupPC developers, I posted this to the Users' list (see http://snurl.com/vw631), but it seems noone was able to provide an answer, and as it relates to the implementation of RsyncP, I'm hoping you may be able to provide the answer I'm looking for:
I'm doing an rsync backup of localhost. I've added checksum caching to speed things up, but I was wondering about whether RsyncP supports the --whole-file option, as bandwidth is clearly not an issue, and all that checksuming seems a waste of CPU time. Furthermore, if it is possible to use the --whole-file option, how does that affect checksum caching? Would it still help, or would it become irrelevant? I imagine it would still save time calculating whole- file checksums, but I'm not sure. In rough tests, it seems so far that there's no noticeable difference between standard rsync, rsync with --whole-file, and rsync with --no-whole-file. I would guess this means that RsyncP doesn't support the option. Could be a nice feature though, I reckon.
