I'm sort of have the same problem, well with rsync on windows, the rsync
just hangs/freezes, and ofc the backup then does not finish..
Its very inconsistent, it works 99.9% of the time, just sometimes, it
decides to freeze up, and stop responding.

Make sure that the Windows XP firewall, if turned on, is allowing
connections through on port 873 (rsync)
rsync.exe is on the list of exceptions. Connection is not a problem
because I receive message in rsync's log on the Windows machine
(firewall does not block it).
I think that both rsync's (from Debian and from windows package) use
different protocols (maybe one side encrypts connection with ssh and
one side is not?). What can I do to check that?

I use BackupPC installed from a Debian stable repository. Everything
works fine, now I want to backup Windows computers in local network.
I decided to install cygwin-rsyncd package on one of them. Configured
everything according to README.TXT.
Then I try to run rsync -av [EMAIL PROTECTED]::TESTDIR . on the backuppc
server (of course I change USER, SERVER, TESTDIR to suit my
configuration). Then I receive this message:

I checked versions of rsync: on the server 2.6.4, on the client
2.6.2. So I installed cygwin and fresh rsync (2.6.4) with fresh
cygwin1.dll. No change, the same problem.
What can I do to make it work?
