Hello,
I regret, i haven't service pack 2 installed with WinXP. I'm sure that is why the path you gave me doesn't work.So please what can be the problem and what can i do?

Have you actually installed and configured the rsyncd service on the windows pc? And have you started it?

You need to get the rsync for windows from the backuppc download site.
Extract that into c:\rsyncd for instance
Edit the config file in c:\rsyncd\rsyncd.conf to suit your share, making sure it matches what you set on the server.
Once your happy with the config save the file.
Then doubleclick on c:\rsyncd\service.bat

This will actually start rsyncd and install it as a service in windows xp so that it starts automatically on boot.

You can test locally on the pc like this...

c:\rsyncd\rsync.exe -av 127.0.01::Testdir

If that works then there's no reason why it wont work from the BackupPC server.

If it still fails make sure you dont have other software blocking it, i.e. norton firewall, mcafee security centre etc etc.

Also rsync runs under cygwin which means it cannot coexist with other utilities running under cygwin due to the cygwin1.dll file. So if you have other cygwin utilities rsync will probably not run without disabling them.

Regards,

Les
