And if you are really, really paranoid, you might also want to consider the possibility of a bug in backuppc, your host OS, or disk media that will make your primary copy flawed and propagate to any other copies of it. The odds are slim, but still probably better than your main system being hit by lightening. I had an amanda system running to tapes before setting up backuppc and have continued to let it run independently for my most critical filesystems.
