I don't know about dirvish, but I concur: backuppc is slow.  Even LAN
based backups are not as fast as they should be.

Still, backuppc is a great app.  I haven't found anything else that is
as easy to setup, use, and maintain.   If backuppc could be sped up, it
would be perfect.

Seems to me backuppc would benefit immensely from a few more developers.
I think a marketing campaign is in order.  It'll pique interest amongst
the OSS community, and hopefully attract a couple of developers.
Donations to the project might be a great way to encourage development
as well.
