I haven't done it, but have played with the VMware Server
program enough to expect it to work with some loss of performance
that may or may not be enough to matter.  The current version
is a beta that has some extra debugging enabled so performance
may improve in the release version.  You might also consider
reversing the situation: install Linux on the base machine
so you can run backuppc directly and move your underused
windows services to a virtual machine.
