Hi all,

I have had some issues in getting rsync to work properly with backuppc,
and wanted to get some input from you backuppcers :) My first task at
hand is to get the localhost to back itself up on a second drive using
rsync. I'm currently using a custom tar command that I found on the
FAQ. It works, but it takes a long time even when nothing on the system
has changed since yesterday, and it seems to make the drives work a lot
harder than rsync would.

When I switch the system to use rsync, I get the dreaded file list
receive failed error. One thing that I don't understand is this: is it
necessary to run rsyncd (as in, rsync --daemon) on the machine that you
want to back up for the rsync option to work properly, or should it just
work (TM)? I've tried it both ways on localhost, with no luck. I've
also had these problems backing up my laptop using rsync (once again,
tar works...) Both systems are gentoo linux. Any ideas?

R
