The problem was one large file was created, and this effectively blocked the entire backup as it would not complete in the time allocated overnight. This is not a common occurrence, and once the file was eventually transferred over the weekend, all is well again until next time. A normal off site backup with Rsync takes around 2-4 hours, depending on the number of file changes etc, and normally works very over night with plenty of bandwidth to spare (which is why I like rsync). I (and even more so my users) like backkuppc's history, which is why I have switched to it. I have thought about rsyncing the whole lot, and then running backup pc, but as Rsync does not pool common files in the same way backuppc does, it would involve a lot of wasted disk space on the remote site.
