easiest would be if your host was resolvable via DNS. What do you use as DHCP server? dnsmasq for instance supposedly does both DNS proxying and DHCP serving, allowing the DHCP hosts to be visible in DNS. If this was the case, you shouldn't need to do anything (except point the BackupPC server at the right DNS server, of course ;-) for your hosts to be resolved correctly (or am I missing something?).
