isn't "Clients want ..." quite beside the point? What do Tim's clients want? Can you tell him that better than he knows? As far as Tim's clients are concerned, everything is ok. The servers are doing everything required of them without fault. Being backed up is ***not*** a "service" required of the production server. It's an unavoidable nuissance like that it needs power to operate. As long as there is no failure, nobody is interested in backups. When there is a failure, backups are meant to minimize a disruption of service. If backups *cause* a disruption of service, they have failed their task. Completely. Like a UPS without bypass taking a server down without there even being a power failure. I'm not saying that is the only possible way *you* can regard the matter, but it is a *valid* way to regard it. That may mean: - fix it without disrupting service or - use another transfer method or - use another backup product. While we should be trying to help Tim make the first of these happen, we seem to be arguing - for quite a while now - about whether Tim's clients are at fault for having a malfunctioning attitude. Or have I completely misunderstood you, Tim? I hope you are not as frustrated by this thread as I am beginning to feel.
