what type of file system is it, what options is it mounted with
(errors=remount-ro for instance)? Could it be that there is an error on the
file system? When this happens, can you touch a file as root anywhere on the
FS before you reboot? Is any process accessing the file system
('sudo fuser -v -m /var/lib/backuppc')? Do the backups complete without error
up to that point? Any possibly related messages in the syslog
(/var/log/messages)? The time of the last action of BackupPC (backup or
nightly run or link ...) might be a good place (in the syslog) to start
looking.
Wasn't that Windoze, where you occasionally have to reboot because something
stops working for no good reason? ;-)
