I've been leery of spinning down drives ever since I had one years ago that wouldn't always spin up after being spun down. I also suspect the heating/cooling cycles aren't good for the drive either... I'm not sure at which point it's less wear to leave the drive running rather than spin it down; but I just leave all my boxen on all the time.
