Hi,

I am experimenting a problem when a try to restore only one file from a
backup.

I have BackupPC 2.1.2pl1 correctly configured and making regular backups
of a Linux partition using tar.

If I pick any backup to restore a directory everything comes out
correctly:

---------------------
Running: /usr/bin/sudo /usr/bin/tar -x -p --numeric-owner --same-owner
-v -f - -C /home
Running: /home/cpseg/bin/BackupPC_tarCreate -h canoh -n 9 -s /home -t -r
/httpd/htdocs -p /httpd/htdocs/ /httpd/htdocs/gif
Xfer PIDs are now 16948,16949
tarCreate: Done: 24 files, 119918 bytes, 1 dirs, 0 specials, 0 errors
/usr/bin/tar: Read 9728 bytes from -
---------------------

But when I pick only one file it doesn't get restored:

---------------------
Running: /usr/bin/sudo /usr/bin/tar -x -p --numeric-owner --same-owner
-v -f - -C /home
Running: /home/cpseg/bin/BackupPC_tarCreate -h canoh -n 9 -s /home -t -r
/httpd/htdocs -p /httpd/htdocs/ /httpd/htdocs/index.html
Xfer PIDs are now 16413,16414
tarCreate: Done: 1 files, 77 bytes, 0 dirs, 0 specials, 0 errors
/usr/bin/tar: Read 9728 bytes from -
/usr/bin/tar: This does not look like a tar archive
/usr/bin/tar: Skipping to next header
/usr/bin/tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors
Tar exited with error 512 () status
----------------------

I have traced this error down to what seems to be a tar problem.
I have a tar file with one file in it: test.tar

If I execute:
 cat test.tar | tar tf -
I get the above error.
 tar tf -<test.tar
and
 tar tf test.tar
work correctly

The BackupPC_tarCreate also seems to be working correctly as I execute it from
the prompt and I get a correct .tar file.

tar version is above the requirements indicated:
  tar --version
tar (GNU tar) 1.15

I am on an old Linux Suse 7.2

Any ideas?

Thanks, Joe
