I have searched the archive, but had no success. I am unable to run BackupPC_dump from the command line, and have to do so to figure out why it is not backing up my Windows XP desktop. Here is what has been tried.
A "su backuppc" does not work - the system prompts for a password and the Apache password set up on installation does not work. A "su -c./BackupPC_dump" fails with: Wrong user: my userid is 0, instead of 107 (backuppc) BackupPC::Lib->new failed Changing to root - through "su", then issuing this command: ./BackupPC_dump -v -f topaz does not work and returns this error: Wrong user: my userid is 0, instead of 107 (backuppc) BackupPC::Lib->new failed The entry for backuppc in /etc/password is: backuppc:x:107:114:BackupPC,,,:/var/lib/backuppc:/bin/sh Can I add a password for user backuppc? If I do, what happens to "/etc/init.d/backuppc" which I presently have to "sudo" to execute. I am not a Linux expert and after two days of this I am feeling pretty frustrated. The Linux box is Ubuntu Edgy Eft, Server version. Regards - Miles Thompson Spatial View Inc.
