What does 'ls -l' show for the size of this file on the source machine? 
    The sparseimage name may be a hint that it is a unix-style spare 
file that has 'holes' that do not take disk space but when you read it 
sequentially the empty blocks appear filled with nulls and thus take 
time and space in the backups.
