Hi Dave, That was the behavior I expected at first when using rsync transfer methods. But by comparing the backup duration from full to incremental, I suspected the full backup to take much longer, thus using more bandwidth. On my local LAN, each full backups takes up to 25 minutes for 8 gig. Each incremental backup takes around 4 minutes to do.
Since the internet connection would be much slower, I was afraid of doing about 5 gig backup from my web server. Usually, it takes about 20 seconds for a standard bash rsync script to update from the web server to a local backup backup directory. I presumed that BackupPC's full backup was different, doing the real "full" backup of all files each time it's run. And the incremental backup are also taking much longer than standard rsync scripts. Maybe there is a reason to it, or an option I missed. If you're using one of the rsync data transfer methods, rsync always transfers only data that has changed since the last backup, whether it's a "full" or "incremental" backup. -Dave ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by DB2 Express Download DB2 Express C - the FREE version of DB2 express and take control of your XML.
