Hi all,
I just installed Backuppc 3.0 for the first time. I was using Backuppc 2.1 and
decide to try out the newer version. I'm having a few problems that hopefully
someone can please help me with.
I have an Ubuntu Feisty server setup that is running Backuppc 3.0. I installed
with a .deb package of 3.0. Now I setup a symbolic link of /var/lib/backuppc
to a USB drive and want to swap out drives every day. Now this was working
perfectly in 2.1, but with 3.0 I got errors on the status web page saying it
could not find files. So I figured it had to do with permissions. So I edited
my /etc/fstab and added this..
/dev/sdb1 /media/usbdrive ntfs-3g
defaults,locale=en_US.utf8,uid=107,gid=112,auto 0 0
Which set permissions on that drive for user and group backuppc by user id,
uid=107,gid=112. Oh and the USB drive has NTFS on it and I'm using ntfs-3g to
get linux to write to the drive. Now after editing that file, backuppc web
page loaded fine and showed me the status page. It started doing backups and
everything was fine. But now it's starting to give me errors like this, when
starting the backuppc service and other errors....
* Starting backuppc...
Can't create LOG file /var/lib/backuppc/log/LOG at
/usr/share/backuppc/bin/BackupPC line 1792.
[ OK ]
So I go and delete the LOG.0 file and the service will start fine for a little
while. But then I can not get any backups to complete and get this error,
Last error is "unable to open/create /var/lib/backuppc/pc/dbserver2/XferLOG".
If I go to that folder and delete all the log files then backup will start fine
for that computer, but will soon fail. I look at the permissions on those
files and they are....

XferLOG.bad
If I delete the log files above, the backup will start, but will never finish
and fail with the same errors, as far as I know.
If you can point me to what I'm doing wrong I would really appreciate it.
