i tried with 160mb and it took a full backup in 1.7minutes ..it's like 100mb/min using rsync. Using samba I think it was a bit faster. If I want to take 40gb ofdata does that mean i have to leave it all day ?
Don't forget the fundamental difference between rsync and samba. rsync transfers only the difference, samba transfers all data, every backup! My rsync transfers speeds may not be very high (< 1 MB/s), but that's because rsync is not continually transferring data (it's also figuring out *what* to transfer exactly). It would take a lot longer to backup my servers if all data had to be transfered every time.
