Yes...Fedora FC7 but, as usual, the problem was not due to Fedora or 
BackupPC...it was my fault. When I said I set the file permissions to allow 
user backuppc full access to full I was incorrect. I set the permission wrong. 
I just went back, set them correctly and a backup is running as I type this 
message!

Sorry about my stupidity.
