Well, I did try it out.  For the record, my BackupPC system is in a
location where I don't have email access (my problem, not yours).  So
I've gotta write down my issues every night and then email the list the
next day.

Anyway, the answer to my own question is that $Conf{BackupFilesExclude}
does the same thing as putting the following into the $Conf{RsyncArgs}
'--exclude', '/somedir',
