I'm using Backuppc in my university since 2005 to backup 150 computers with a cpool of 1 To. I have succeded to backup a computer outside my lan (at home with ADSL connexion). In order to do that, I use a cisco VPN concentrator (VPN 3000) and a radius server. I was registered in the radius server and our DNS with a single computeur name. My computeur always have the same name, so it's very easy to backup with a dns resolution and rsync. The network traffic overhead is about 20% (encryption with IP/sec) but the backups work fine. -- Gerald CHATAGNON Correspondant logiciel suppleant Universite Jean Monnet - Saint Etienne Centre de Ressources Informatiques Telecom et Reseaux 23 rue Docteur Paul Michelon - 42023 Saint Etienne Tel : 04 77 48 50 42 Fax : 04 77 48 50 69 Pour toutes demandes d'assistance : https://ent.univ-st-etienne.fr Outils / Centre d'aide Alan Kay (Palo Alto Research Center) : "People who are really serious about software should make their own hardware" -- Gerald CHATAGNON Correspondant logiciel suppleant Universite Jean Monnet - Saint Etienne Centre de Ressources Informatiques Telecom et Reseaux 23 rue Docteur Paul Michelon - 42023 Saint Etienne Tel : 04 77 48 50 42 Fax : 04 77 48 50 69 Pour toutes demandes d'assistance : https://ent.univ-st-etienne.fr Outils / Centre d'aide Alan Kay (Palo Alto Research Center) : "People who are really serious about software should make their own hardware" ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: Splunk Inc.
