It's got to do with registry entries being left behind from the Cygwin installation. See here:
http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?thread_name=46D551D3.8080809%40bio-chemvalve.com&forum_name=backuppc-users This is the quick answer: 1) Make sure rsyncd is stopped 2) Make sure cygwin is uninstalled (typically by removing c:\cygwin) 3) Run regedit and search for 'cygwin'. Delete any registry key that references it. 4) Start rsyncd and double-check that it's running -Rob Alexander Lenz wrote: > Hi, BackupPC Users ! > > I've seen that issue only once on your list, without any reply though. > Therefore I hope you guys can help me out : > > I can't get my rsyncd to run on a couple of Windows XP SP2 clients. > It's always the same scenario: > The service installs properly, as the line > > cygrunsrv.exe -I rsyncd -e CYGWIN=nontsec -p c:/rsyncd/rsync.exe -a > "--config=c:/rsyncd/rsyncd.conf --daemon --no-detach" > > is executed without a hassle; but then, the next command in 'service.bat', > i.e. > > cygrunsrv.exe --start rsyncd > > fails with "Win32 error 1062" and tells me that the service could not be > started. > Same result when trying to run rsyncd from the services MMC. > > I have tried this on top of a full-fledged cygwin installation beforehand, > only to > run into dll version conflicts.
