I'm trying to set up a BackupPC server with an eye to the future so that I can expand storage easily, so I want LVM with RAID (unfortunately it'll have to be RAID 1, as I can't see that LVM and software-RAID 5 work together, but that's another issue :-().Anyway, I can't figure out from the documentation where BPC keeps the backup data. The online documentation [1] says "Note that distributions may choose to use different locations for BackupPC files than these defaults." Where is __TOPDIR__ for BackupPC on Ubuntu/Debian? That's where the backups and logs are stored now.
I believe this is /var/lib/backuppc when you install the .deb package. If you use the .tar.gz you can pick whatever you like during the install.
Is there a recommended partitioning schema for BackupPC? What are people here using?
Just make sure you use a big separate partition for BackupPC's _TOPDIR_ (mount it as /var/lib/backuppc under Debian/Ubuntu), preferably a separate disk or array of disks.
