Hi all, I just joined the list last week and have been reading the steady streams of messages coming from this list. I've written a couple docs on how to install and configure BackupPC which are available at the following location: http://prosoundsystem.com/backuppc/BackupPC_Centos5.doc http://prosoundsystem.com/backuppc/BackupPC_FreeBSD.doc One is for FreeBSD 6.x and the other for Centos 5.x. The FreeBSD doc should work for 7.x. The only instructions not included in the FreeBSD doc are how to install Apache but if you need instructions on how to install from 'ports' just send a reply. Kanti - These docs are pretty verbose and have nice pictures to walk you through setting up a new client in BackupPC. Hope these help you. We're currently backing up about 12 clients with a total pool size of ~300GB. The uncompressed pool is around 500GB. The hardware the server is on is an Intel e6550 w/ an Asus P5B motherboard (Intel P965) chipset and a 3ware 9000 series 4 port controller running 4x 400GB Western Digital 7200 RPM sata drives in a hardware RAID5 configuration. As usual, our backup throughput is limited by disk i/o. Realistically we can run 3 full simultaneous backups over GigE. We'll soon also be moving another site of ours w/ approximately 35 servers to BackupPC. The planned configuration will be running a P4 3Ghz w/ 2GB of RAM with backup storage provided by a 3ware 9000 series hardware raid controller. The disk configuration will be 4x Seagate 1TB sata drives. At my last company we also ran BackupPC to store data for ~15 Solaris 8/9/10 hosts and a few linux servers. We've also got a library at our remote site and I am wondering if anyone has come up with a script to use the 'mtx' binary to rotate tapes on the fly and get archives to span tapes.
