Ugh, shorter answer (I think this is more accurate): backuppc 2.1.2 doesn't have a Edit Host feature, this wasn't added until backuppc 3.0 or thereabouts... Either use backuppc from testing, or don't use the edit host feature, modify the config files from the command line.
