Step one have good documentation of the system configuration during original install. Step two install the OS according to documentation Step 3 get the client running on the client. This is ususally pretty streight forward. Step 4 tell backup pc to basically restore everything Step 5 reboot and you should be up just as the old system was. > Jack wrote: > > > Many restores are not due to a 'meltdown', even thought that does happen, > > they are due to accidently deleting or modifying a file. > > That's true, but IF something really bad happens and some (or even one) > client AND the BackupPC server are damaged you've have a problem. > If the BackupPC Server holds all the backup you have a single point of > failure -> bad! > > > Doing a 'bear metal restore' is beyond the scope of BackupPC as > > normally configured. > > Maybe it's sufficient to throw in some (full disk image) backups using > ClonZilla or G4L in order to be able to restore the BackupPC server > after a crash?! > > - Kurt > > > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------- > This SF.Net email is sponsored by the Moblin Your Move Developer's challenge > Build the coolest Linux based applications with Moblin SDK & win great prizes > Grand prize is a trip for two to an Open Source event anywhere in the world > http://moblin-contest.org/redirect.php?banner_id=100&url=/ > _______________________________________________ > BackupPC-users mailing list > BackupPC-users@lists.sourceforge.net > List: https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/backuppc-users > Wiki: http://backuppc.wiki.sourceforge.net > Project: http://backuppc.sourceforge.net/ -- Ray Todd Stevens Specialists in Network and Security Consulting Senior Consultant Stevens Services [EMAIL PROTECTED] Suite 21 (812) 279-9394 3754 Old State Rd 37 N Bedford, IN 47421 Thought for the day: Bagpipes (n): an octopus wearing a kilt. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.Net email is sponsored by the Moblin Your Move Developer's challenge Build the coolest Linux based applications with Moblin SDK & win great prizes Grand prize is a trip for two to an Open Source event anywhere in the world http://moblin-contest.org/redirect.php?banner_id=100&url=/ _______________________________________________ BackupPC-users mailing list BackupPC-users@lists.sourceforge.net List: https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/backuppc-users Wiki: http://backuppc.wiki.sourceforge.net Project: http://backuppc.sourceforge.net/
