Thanks for the script but it seems to me that our Linux distributions are too different.
In my installation when I look at /etc/apache2/conf.d there is link to the file /etc/backup/apache.conf that says: AuthUserFile /etc/backuppc/htpasswd I added manually one user to /etc/backuppc/htpasswd file. So from what you wrote to me I understand that I should match /etc/backuppc/htpasswd with /etc/shadow. When I compare password field in that htpasswd file with the one in /etc/shadow (of course they have the same password) the difference is enormous. The one in /etc/shadow is several times longer. I guess my system (Ubuntu) is using different type of hush (if that is the correct name).
