Hi! Assuming you are doing rsync over ssh, you will simply need to change your setting according to this documentation: http://backuppc.sourceforge.net/faq/ssh.html#how_can_client_access_as_root_be_avoided The issue at hand is: you will need root access to the files, but obviously you are using another user for the backup, which is a very good idea. Sudo does the trick.
