Hi Backuppers! I'm working on a way to allow client-initiated backups using SSH. I have a few variants working already, and I will make the documentation public soon. For this, your ideas on a few topics would be very much appreciated:
- Any earlier implementations I should know about? - Features you would like to see? - Specific use cases that could be covered? - Anything you want to know from me? The variants I have working now vary from a passive vpn-like idea to the client being completely in charge of running backups, all with very few changes to the basic idea, and it integrates nicely with the windows rsyncd package. Moreover, this works with rsync, rsyncd and windows and linux clients. I don't see why it wouldn't work with smb and tar as well as other OS:s but these are currently untested. There are also dev-related questions, especially this functionality: http://www.mail-archive.com/backuppc-de...@lists.sourceforge.net/msg00170.html The functionality is not included in current releases, maybe later or perhaps the Zmanda people are interested in making it a reality?
