Rob, we want to move away from tape backups which we had been doing previously with NTBackup and ArcserveIT but are restricted in our options because Exchange 5.5 is running on a Windows NT 4.0 Server.
I am using ExMerge already to supplement BackupPC with an approximation of the old ArcserveIT brick-level mailbox backups. If you know of any disk-to-disk backup utility that would run on a Windows NT 4.0 Server or would run on another server and would recognize Exchange 5.5 across the network, I'd love to know about it. I used to backup an exchange server using BackupPC and a couple Microsoft utilities: ntbackup and exmerge. Both of them can back up the exchange database while exchange is running. I then used BackupPC to backup the output of those utilities. ntbackup creates one huge file for the exchange database.
