You really want to be able to access the device with something like NFS or ATA over ethernet.
I have a dns-323 (which is a linux-based NAS) and I was able to hack it to run NFS (after some incompatibility tribulations with ext3 and kernel 2.6.12). This has allowed me to use the NAS device for BackupPC. I had a thread on that about 6 months back. So, if you have a low end (i.e. consumer) NAS, you might want to see whether it is hackable to run NFS. > I mount the drive as follows: > > //192.168.15.6/public /backups cifs rw, > username=user, password=passwd, uid=backuppc, gid=backuppc 0 0 > > ____________________________________________________ > David Williams > > -----Original Message----- > From: Tino Schwarze [mailto:backuppc.li...@tisc.de] > Sent: Tuesday, April 07, 2009 9:24 AM > To: backuppc-users@lists.sourceforge.net > Subject: Re: [BackupPC-users] External WD Worldbook Device > > On Tue, Apr 07, 2009 at 08:32:33AM -0400, David Williams wrote: > > > So, the workbook drive that I have cannot create hard links L so this > means > > I can no longer use this drive for doing backups, since the hardlink check > > will stop this.
