I tried renicing everything: jew...@kw157:/usr/share/backuppc/bin$ head -2 BackupPC_nightly #!/usr/bin/perl setpriority(0, $$, -20);
jew...@kw157:/usr/share/backuppc/bin$ head -2 BackupPC_dump #!/usr/bin/perl setpriority(0, $$, 20); The result is, as some predicted, negligible. Also, someone posited that maybe I am backing up more data and now sever capacity is insufficient, but that's not really the case. One difference I did forget though was that I had broken the nightly jobs into quarters if I remember correctly. So today, I told BackupPC to break the nightly jobs into 16ths. That should help. And then I'll slowly tighten the blackout window (up to 8 hours now) once I see how fast the smaller nightly jobs run. My disk array is at %70 capacity, so I think it will be able to handle the increased disk space requirement of breaking the nightly jobs into 16ths. Thanks for all the help an suggestions so far!
