Perhaps somebody can explain what this problem is and how to solve it. I have a Debian machine running BackupPC and a windows xp machine that I want to back up. Both machines are on a small local network served by a router. I have a 3rd machine on the network, running Ubuntu server (192.168.0.108) as a webserver, but NOT serving the Backup PC pages (they are on the Debian box). The Debian and XP machines have statically mapped IP addresses, done by the router via matching MAC addresses in a table of corresponding IP addresses (192.168.0.2 (HP-PC-XP), 192.168.0.3 (Debian). The Ubuntu machine is also statically mapped to an IP address.
Running 'Full Backup' on the HP host I get the above error (Can't find IP address)...and the following additional information: "HP-PC_XP is a DHCP host, and I don't know it's IP address. I check the netbios of name 192.168.0.108 and found that that machine is not HP-PC-XP. Until I see HP-PC-XP at a particular DHCP address, you can only start this request from the clien machine itself." Apparently, backuppc is finding a DHCP server on the Ubuntu server and the debian machine is trying to find the address of HP-PC-XP through the ubuntu server. Can someone explain what I should do to correct this?? On the Debian machine that contains Backuppc, when I do: nmblookup HP-PC_XP It says 'name query failed to find HP[PC-XP' nmblookup -A 192.168.0.2 it says 'No reply for 192.168.0.2 nmblookup -B 10.10.1.255 HP-PC-XP it says 'Name_query failed to find name HP-PC-XP' I also confirmed the netbios over tcp/ip is turned on on the HP-PC-XP machine. How can I resolve this problem?? Thank you!
