Hi Flavio, The info in the post is feasible and in my opinion easy to do. I've used it for several times, depending on the recover system (distro) you use the difficulty may increase, usually i use a OpenSuSE distro that recognizes most of the hardware from boot, specially the NICs. Then the SSH server setup may be a little tricky but the instructions work perfectly for the opensuse recovery system (from the 10.1).
In the example i didn't use LVM so it didn't get more complicated but there's no reason not to use it, if you fell comfortable with it. You just need to create a physical volume, group volume, and logical volumes with your hard drives, even better if you don't have hardware raid before you create the LVM system you may create a software raid with mdadm tools. If you want to try it, just create a virtual machine an restore a backup there. The whole procedure should take you about 20-30 minutes + copy time Cheers, Pedro On Monday 10 May 2010 15:45:14 Boniforti Flavio wrote: > Hy Pedro, > > > Some time ago i wrote about thins in my blog, check it out: > > http://www.linux-geex.com/?s=backuppc&x=0&y=0#/?p=163 > > I read through your post, and it seems interesting and feasable (reading > without doing is much more complicated as it may seem when doing it)... > Can you thus confirm that your suggested way of recovering *is* working? > > And, maybe slightly OT: what kind of benefits could I get from switching > over to use LVM? > > Many thanks and kind regards, > Flavio Boniforti > > PIRAMIDE INFORMATICA SAGL > Via Ballerini 21 > 6600 Locarno > Switzerland > Phone: +41 91 751 68 81 > Fax: +41 91 751 69 14 > Url: http://www.piramide.ch > E-mail: fla...@piramide.ch > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ > > _______________________________________________ > BackupPC-users mailing list > BackupPC-users@lists.sourceforge.net > List: https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/backuppc-users > Wiki: http://backuppc.wiki.sourceforge.net > Project: http://backuppc.sourceforge.net/ > -- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Pedro M.
