You only need to protect /usr/share/backuppc/cgi-bin/. If you installed the Ubuntu package, just edit /etc/apache2/conf.d/backuppc and add lines like so: <Directory /usr/share/backuppc/cgi-bin/> AuthGroupFile /etc/apache2/htgroup AuthUserFile /etc/apache2/htpasswd AuthType basic AuthName "BackupPC" require valid-user </Directory> Then create users: htpasswd -m /etc/apache2/htpasswd username Then reload Apache.
