Not usually. When they get bollixed up, DNS does not always have an IP for the original name.. I have 26 systems this morning that dig does not return an IP on :(

DNS and mDNS are different, mDNS normally relies on the host being searched for responding not a server, there are server ways of doing it to but it's really designed for small/medium LANs so they "just work"
